Covid-19: Antibody tests recommendations

✋ CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) does not recommend using antibody tests to diagnose current infection.

Although serological tests indicating the presence of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 may indicate current or past infection, they should generally not be used to establish the presence or absence of acute SARS infection. -CoV-2

Depending on when a person was infected and the time of the test, the test may not detect antibodies in a person who is currently infected.

In addition, it is currently not known whether a positive antibody test result indicates immunity to SARS-CoV-2; therefore, at this time, antibody tests should not be used to determine whether an individual is immune to reinfection. Antibody tests are used for public health surveillance and epidemiological purposes.

Since antibody tests can have different targets, specific tests may be needed to assess antibodies from a past infection versus those from vaccination
